Feature Article: Well, No Government Shutdown, but a Whole Bunch of Other Things

April 8, 2011

(12:50 am CST) I just learned the measure stops a partial government shutdown until Thursday. Also, even though Republicans did not get the 100B they were looking for, they got something else. According to Fox News, the GOP managed to get :

1. The largest spending cut in history (35.5B) (Not that much compared to 14 Trillion. It would have to be the biggest cut in history when you are facing the biggest debt in history, duh)

2. A senate vote on Obamacare Repeal (Big one. A Fox News analyst said that people like Claire McCaskill would have to restate their position on Obamacare, and she doesn’t want to because she knows we will not like it.

3. New tools to fight Obamacare

4. Denies Additional funding to the IRS

5. Vote on Planned Parenthood funding

6. NO taxpayer-funded abortions in DC

So, even though we didn’t get our 100 Billion. We opened up SO many new doors. I am dis appointed we did not get our 100B, but defunding and ultimately repealing Obamacare is also of the utmost importance.  In Addition to that, we get to vote on funding for planned parenthood.

More details to come. Look for more () symbols…

Well according to source #1, Obama, Reid, and Boehner made “Historic” deal to stop the government shutdown. Apparently, “The Senate acted within minutes. The House worked past midnight, so the federal government was to be technically unfunded for a short period of time…” So the government shutdown is averted. Personally, I am not so happy. I could not see for how long this new “historic” deal will last, but more information is piling in, and one has to sleep at one point. Obama called it “the biggest annual spending cut in history.”(Source #1 [#1]). I do not know if this is true, but when you are facing as big a debt as we are now that could make sense. Let’s flashback to January 26, 2011, when the NY Times talked about how the forecast debt was 1.5 trillion, now its 14 trillion. Wow. Look at us now. It’s like you let a 16-year-old loose with a credit card, and then he come home…”Mom, look what I did!” Mom: “How in the–?”

Regardless, (#6) “not all House Republicans are pleased that Speaker John Boehner compromised with Democrats on social issues that have long been sticking points for the GOP during the budget negotiations.” I am not so happy either. I can look at the differences between letting the government shutdown and not changing or compromising our principles, or just compromising. However, news is pouring in, so we shouldn’t jump to conclusions yet. All we know is some sort of measure was struck, passed I suppose, but these articles are vague. All we know is that as of now, the government is not shutdown.
