Feature Article: a Comment, a Massacre, and Why You Should Have a Concealed Carry Permit

November 27, 2010

I recently got a comment from Dan on “24th State.com: What Is The Point Of No Firearms Allowed Signs?“. This comment read: “You sound like a redneck. Guns have no business in a doctor’s office.” This got me thinking, is this person right? Do guns not belong on the citizen’s of the nation?  Or, in reverse, why is it good to have a concealed carry permit? I started doing research and a came across this video documenting a shooting in Texas (it is only about five and a half minutes, but it is imperative to watch the video to understand the rest of the article):

This made me think, Suzanna Gratia Hupp’s gun was in her car. Not only was it illegal at that time to have her gun on her, but did it really belong in Luby’s cafeteria? So I came to the conclusion, if she had her gun with her when the shooter started his rampage, Suzanna could have stopped him there. Her parents would not be dead. As a matter of fact, the gunman killed 21 people in total. But because having a weapon in the restaurant was illegal, Suzanna Hupp left her gun in her car, enabling the shooter to continue his rampage.

I believe that people should be able to carry weapons with them anywhere. Many people are very afraid of these weapons, but they are essential to safety. Some people may never even come in contact with a shooter or even a gun in their life and because of this they feel no one needs them, and they wish to rid them of the world because they only cause trouble. However, some people do come into contact with shooters — in McDonald’s restaurants, at sleepy small town cafeteria’s, and maybe, just maybe,  in the doctor’s office. If people are allowed to carry weapons anywhere, the body count in these kinds of things would go way down.

Suppose in that restaurant, every person had a weapon. If someone was stupid enough to go into a room of fully armed people, as soon as he pulled out his gun, he could already have 5 guns pointed at him. The almost shooter would have hurt no one, but instead, he was able to murder all those people.

So, heading back to the comment by Dan, guns have their place in a doctor’s office. Suppose an armed gunman comes in and attempts to steal something, shoot someone, or even attempt to kidnap someone, an armed bystander would be able to stop it.

Guns have their place in a doctor’s office or in any office, and in my opinion they have their place everywhere. Having the right to carry a weapon anywhere is essential for your safety and others safety. Why even the Founding Fathers gave us the right to bear arms, the second amendment!  It is my belief that if America was an armed country, we would have a lot less of what happened at Luby’s in America.

I hope this article makes you think about guns and gun rights. I hope it makes you think about what would happen to you if you were in this situation. Would you like to have a weapon when someone comes in, ready to kill you? I would.

That is why I started this blog. I want people to think about things. You hear about guns so much, but when was the last time you actually stopped and thought about something? Sometimes this blog even makes me think about things!

It is my hope that all Americans are one day armed, so they may protect themselves and those around them. The world needs more people like Suzanna Gratia Hupp. People have the right and need to be armed! Everywhere!

In conclusion, I would like to remind you of what I said earlier; If you are in that situation, if there is an armed shooter coming your way, and he is killing everyone in this path, would you want a weapon? Would you like to protect yourself or be killed for nothing? I urge you to seriously consider this, and if it is your decision, become armed yourself.

As it is said: It is better to be tried by 12 than carried by six!

Thank you for writing about this. There’s a heap of solid tech info on the internet. You’ve got a lot of that info here on your web site. I’m impressed – I try to keep a couple blogs fairly ongoing, but it’s a struggle sometimes. You’ve done a big job with this one. How do you do it?

Well I respectfully disagree that fear of guns is irrational. I would think that it might be difficult to kill somebody with a knife, a bat, bare hands, yet very convinient with a gun. This man killed 12 people? I’d just like to compare this situation to in Manitoba, guns were regulated and there are far fewer deaths by gun because many less people have them. I understand your point that there isn’t a way to make sure everyone isn’t armed. But I would feel safer with less guns as opposed to more.

Personally, Ching, I’d love to to live in a world where no one has guns just as much as you, but that horse is out of the barn. Bad people have weapons, and while having less guns sounds great, if a bad armed assailant comes to kill you and you have no gun…you will die. So, realistically, the is no way to ban ALL guns. The only choice left is to allow those who choose to have weapons to have them. However, is not forced onto anyone. So, between having less guns, but being unprotected, and having more guns, but being protected, I pick being protected.
